Alexander Davies has been awarded the IWSN-UWE Student Prize for his excellent research project on the root cause analysis of structural failures in ferrocement rainwater harvesting tanks in Kisoro, Uganda.
Reviewers praised the maturity of his approach to a critical challenge in using ferrocement tanks to enhance household water security in developing nations. Professor Chad Staddon, IWSN Director, said: “We have long suspected that there are patterns to structural failure in these water storage systems and Alex’s work proves it. IWSN activities in developing nations will now adapt to ensure that water storage solutions are more stress-resilient.”
