Dr Thanti Octavianti is a Research Fellow in Cities, Water and Resilience at the University of the West of England in Bristol, where she investigates the socio-technical aspects of household water provision in Indonesia, Uganda, Haiti and Mexico. She completed her DPhil at the School of Geography and the Environment at Oxford University, examining the socio-political dynamics of water security, using Jakarta’s seawall plan as a case study.
She holds an MSc in Water Science, Policy and Management from Oxford University and a BEng in Environmental Engineering from Universitas Indonesia. Prior to doing her postgraduate studies, she worked as a consultant in the Indonesian Ministry of Public Works, where she assessed the performance of local governments in the provision of water services. As a social scientist with an engineering background, she is developing an interest in the interdisciplinary nature of water security and in the techniques to measure water security.
